Lecture: "The Global Strategic Situation: Retrospect, Present, Prospect (How Net Assessment, Strategic Analysis, and Simulation Can Help Us make Sense of the World)"
'How are we to make sense of global events? To what extent is history our guide? What intellectual tools are at our disposal? In this presentation, Dr Rob Johnson, the Director of the Strategy, Statecraft, & Technology (Changing Character of War ) Centre at Oxford University, and the UK's first Director of the Office of Net Assessment, will trace the intellectual waypoints that enable us to evaluate world events, trace its antecedents, and offer some guidance to the future. One hallmark of Dr Johnson's approach is a detailed examination of decision making and strategic analytical tools that can be applied in practice and policy making. The presentation stands at the junction of academic and professional evaluation. As he makes clear, the threats ahead are far more serious and pressing than they have seemed in recent years, and perhaps even more unexpected.
