In December 2019, NATO officially declared space as its fifth operational domain, thereby acknowledging its military importance. More recently, the employment of large numbers of low earth orbit satellites has given rise to a whole new race in space: the emergence of Starlink has provided Ukraine with an almost undefeatable communications capability.
